PRIVACY NOTICE
Your information.
A considered approach.
This notice explains how information submitted through this website is intended to be handled. Last updated: 8 September 2026.
1. Who this notice concerns
This website is operated under the name African Lawyers Association for the purpose of receiving legal referral enquiries and applications from legal practitioners. The contact details for the operator and privacy requests are published on the contact page.
2. Information requested
Client enquiries request contact details, location, legal speciality, the type of assistance sought, urgency, any known deadline, an indicative USD budget and a brief overview. Professional applications request professional contact details, practice locations, specialities, admission information and a short profile.
Please provide only information needed for an initial enquiry. Do not submit identity documents, medical records, privileged correspondence, names of opposing parties, client-identifying information or confidential evidence. This website does not accept document uploads.
3. How information is used
Information is used to review and respond to a request, seek a potentially suitable professional connection, consider a professional application, verify professional details where appropriate, and protect the website against misuse. Where applicable law requires a specific lawful basis or additional notice, this must be established before further processing.
4. Sharing and international enquiries
Client enquiries may be shared in a limited form with potentially suitable independent legal practitioners and advisors in the relevant jurisdiction, in accordance with the consent requested in the form. A cross-border matter may involve recipients in another country, where privacy protections can differ. Do not include information that is unnecessary for that initial review.
Hosting and email providers process information needed to operate the service. An appointed practitioner will be responsible for their own privacy notices, records and professional obligations. Attorney profiles are not published automatically; publication requires separate confirmation.
5. Storage and retention
This website sends submitted enquiry details by email and does not store the content in a website database. Copies can exist in the operator's email systems, relevant service providers' systems and, where shared, the recipient practitioner's records. Information should be retained only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose of the enquiry and any applicable professional, dispute-resolution or legal obligation. Contact the operator for information about a particular record.
6. Technical information and cookies
The enquiry process uses an essential session cookie for security and duplicate-submission protection. The form does not save your matter or contact details in browser local storage. Short-lived anti-abuse records use a pseudonymised IP-based identifier and timestamps rather than the substance of your enquiry. The hosting provider may maintain ordinary server logs.
The supplied website does not include advertising trackers, analytics scripts, third-party font requests or non-essential cookies. This notice must be reconsidered if additional services are added.
7. Security and limits
The website is intended to be used over HTTPS and includes validation, anti-forgery checks and submission limits. These measures do not make email or internet communications risk-free and do not create legal privilege. A practitioner should agree an appropriate channel before sensitive documents are exchanged.
8. Your requests
Depending on applicable law, you may be entitled to request access, correction or deletion, object to processing, withdraw consent for future processing or raise a complaint with the appropriate authority. Contact the operator using the privacy contact details. Verification of your identity may be necessary, and some records may need to be retained where lawful obligations apply. Withdrawal cannot undo a disclosure that has already lawfully occurred.
9. Changes
This notice should be reviewed as the network's operations, providers or applicable requirements change. The date above identifies this version. It does not replace any separate privacy notice or engagement terms supplied by a legal practitioner.
10. Professional verification and practice administration
Professional applications also request category, qualifications, relevant experience, current standing and, for legal advisors, the basis and limits of their advisory services. Information is used for credential checks, review of professional references, approval decisions and continued suitability. Supporting evidence is requested through an appropriate private channel, not uploaded through this website.
Administration enquiries request practice contact details, location, support requirements, indicative matter volume, current systems and an outline of the work. These details are used to assess an administrative mandate. Do not submit client files, invoices, bank details or sensitive records through the enquiry form.
Any later access to practice or client information requires separately agreed confidentiality, access controls, data-processing instructions, appropriate permissions and retention arrangements. The website enquiry itself does not appoint the administrator or authorise access to client records.
